Energy saving recommendations


Save money on heating without sacrificing the well-being and comfort is possible.
Just act on several fronts and make small details of everyday behaviour in order to respect the
environment and save money.


Here are some recommendations:

•   Scale correctly the heating system on your real needs: a boiler too powerful, if not necessary,
    consumes much more energy.

•   Make an annual maintenance of the boiler. A boiler not perfectly efficiently increases the
    power consumption. Furthermore, it is necessary to carry out the analysis of combustion and
    cleaning the flue by an employee (the stove fitter).

•   Please run by specialized technicians the periodic testing, cleaning and maintenance
    of the system. Save 15% on consumption.

•   Clean or replace air filters regularly for fan coils.

•   Keep clean the baseboard radiators, avoiding restrictions with furniture, carpets,
    and curtains.

•   If you have the air heating system, control the ventilation ducts to verify the proper sealing
    and cleaning, eliminating the air leakage equal to 15-20%.

•   Purge the air from the radiators to keep them at maximum efficiency and to improve the
    boiler efficiency. Mount the vent valves in old radiators.

•   Avoid covering radiators with furniture or drapes, do not use cover radiators.
    The air must circulate freely around them to improve the efficiency.

•   If the radiators are located on the outer walls is useful to put behind them the reflective
    panels to reduce the dispersion. You will get a saving of 5% on heating.

•   Set the thermostat temperature up to 20° C, each additional degree will increase the fuel
    consumption with 8%.

•   Install a control panel for automatic temperature. Diversify the temperature in the areas of
    the house.

•   Consider installing some thermostatic radiator valves that allow you to save money and
    to improve the comfort in each room (up to 20% savings).

•   During the night, turn off the boiler or adjust the timer for the auto ignition two hours before
    awakening. In cold areas that do not allow the switching off of the boiler just adjust the night
    temperature at 16° C using the heat stored in the walls.

•   Reduce the temperature of the boiler. In midseason is not necessary to maintain it
    at 70-75 °C. Manually set the value 50-60° C.

•   Install flow reducers on all faucets and showers at home. It reduces the consumption of
    hot water of 20-30%.

•   If your water heater is the instantaneous heating type, the exchanger cleaning and the coil
    which removes lime deposits ensures the water consumption of 15%.


Even in the building you can make choices that help the savings:

•   Turn off the radiators located in rooms not too much used (closets, basement, and attic)
    or at least keep the doors closed in order not to circulate the hot air.

•   If your home is on several levels, with open stairs, close the radiators on the top floor,
    since warm air should be always at the top.

•   Do not ventilate the room for too long time. Open the windows during the hottest hours of
    the day for short periods.

•   Turn down the shutters at night. The glasses cause a large dispersion of the internal heat.

•   Install double glasses in frames of windows and doors to prevent heat loss.

•   Insulate the roller blinds upon the windows and in general every draft of the house.

•   Insulate the walls, ceilings, attics to prevent the dispersion of heat to the outside.
    The complete insulation of the walls (external insulation) you could save even 70%.

•   If you use a lot of electric heaters to heat, consider that they consume almost twice than
    the fuel heating systems.


Improvements in the heating should be evaluated because they drastically
reduce the consumption:

•   Redevelopment of the plant.

•   The replacement of an old boiler with one with high energy efficiency.

•   Install solar panels for domestic hot water production.

•   The floor system is the next frontier in energy conservation and efficiency.
    The savings vary from a minimum of 25% for small rooms Up to 50-60% for large
    environments.

The cost of these interventions is greatly decreased by the effect of tax deductions of 55%.
